Green issues need to be better understood from an architectural and design standpoint and placed higher on agendas, but progress requires co-operation and strong enthusiasm among all stakeholders, and oftentimes simple solutions lead to long-term value.

Though investment in “going green” carries a higher price tag for developers, those who are starting to market their projects as “green” are providing real savings in ongoing operating costs, which actually provide owners/occupiers with tremendous long-term benefits.

Perhaps it is now time for incentives to be provided for developers “going green” by authorities in Thailand.

Essentially, designers and developers should address six key areas to better meet green standards: energy, the site, water, materials, air quality and waste.
